MI 171

The Mi-171Sh is a Russian Mi-8AMTSh Export Design. A dedicated assault transport version of the Mi-171 can be seen which in turn is an enhanced version of the Mi-17. Sometimes The Terminator is called The Mi-171Sh. It made its first flight in 1996, and was first shown to the public in 1999. It is currently in service with Angola, Bangladesh, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Ghana, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Sri Lanka and others. Due to their good value for money and ease of maintenance theMi-17 series helicopters are popular. This helicopter is also tested, robust, and effective in action. The Mi-171Sh's main role is to carry supplies and soldiers, and with its firepower to support them. It can smooth out enemy defenses before landing. The Mi-171Sh can also conduct search and rescue for war, as well as tasks for medical evacuation. Countries with limited military support use such helicopters for assault transport rather than dedicated helicopters for attacks. This helicopter transporting the assault accommodates 26 fully equipped troops. It can carry 12 stretchers plus one medical attendant for the medical evacuation missions. Inside the slings, the helicopter can carry 4 000 kg of payload, or the same amount of payload externally. Early Mi-171Sh versions have clamshell rear doors. New versions have a ramp to the left. There seems to be a version of the Mi-171Sh transport assault helicopter with VIP interior, which retains its weapons. The Mi-171Sh has a three-person crew including pilot, co-pilot and gunner. The gunner uses a sighting system, located beneath the nose, and aims at different weapons. Two Klimov TV3-117VM turboshaft engines drive this aircraft, each generating 2 190 shp. These engines allow the helicopter to operate in mountainous and high altitude terrain. As an option VK-2500 engines have been proposed. It also has new and structurally improved rotor blades, compared with the earlierMi-17 helicopters. The Mi-171Sh with one of the destroyer or disabled engines will limp back home. In case of failure another engine will automatically increase its power to about 2 500 shp to continue the flight.
