Chinese major battle tanks are the Type 69. Both were Type 59 developments (based on the Soviet T-54A), using T-62-derived technologies. These were China's first major battle tanks developed independently.Their ancestry can be seen in the distinct difference between the first and second wheels on the lane. A new engine, ballistic computers, and laser rangefinders included other upgrades. The more sophisticated version of Type 79 was fitted with a 105 mm rifled gun that was also used on the Type 80 tank.
